ZONE 3 Women’s Saving Club from Tuvaruhu has held a one-day arts and crafts market over the weekend.

The event was held on Friday at their community at Tuvaruhu, Central Honiara.

Saving club member, Annet Faith Upa told Solomon Women that the turnout was good and many products were sold out to locals.

Ms. Annet said that most of their customers that day came from different communities in Honiara.

“Compared to previous markets we held the past months, we saw that people came in good numbers but mostly our same customers.

“Our group is planning on doing more in our next sales which the women are looking forward to,” she said.

Tuvaruhu women’s saving club is an initiative created by women in Tuvaruvu to engage themselves in a saving scheme. The initiative allows women to create and sell their handmade products so that they can save money for their families.

The women create products to sell. Besides making products, they are also involved in community work such as doing small jobs for households and they get paid. This money also goes to their club savings.

The group started this year and consists of more than 70 members. The majority of members are women and girls aged from 7 to 60.

Ms. Annet later encouraged communities in provinces to do such initiatives so that they can contribute positively to their communities.

“Women in town are encouraged to do similar activities. Despite the challenges we face today with the effect of the corona pandemic; you can come up with such initiatives to earn money so that you can save money for yourselves, and your families to use in the future,” she said.

The Tuvaruvu women’s club always displays its markets every month. Every month the women’s club also engages in community clean-up in their community as one of their monthly activities.

Meanwhile, the next craft market is proposed to be held next month’s 7th of July, which on the day that the Solomon Islands will celebrate its Independence Day.
