THE President of the University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Students Association (USPSISA) Honiara Campus, Kevin Olea, has called for inclusive support for women and young girls in all areas of society, especially education.

In a recent interview with SUNDAY ISLES to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day celebrations in Honiara, Olea emphasized the importance of ensuring that women from all backgrounds receive the support they need to thrive in academic endeavors.

He highlighted the particular difficulties and obstacles that women encounter in a variety of spheres of life, such as the job, the classroom, and the medical field. He emphasized the significance of developing inclusive policies and initiatives that support women from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds and address these issues.

“We cannot continue to ignore the specific needs and challenges that women face,” said Olea. “It is time for us to come together as a society and ensure that all women have the opportunities and support they need to succeed.”

He stressed the prioritization of women within the objectives of the USPSISA, stressing that men must actively support women in every circumstance.

“As a young leader, I’ve seen women make wise judgments time and time again, exhibiting inclusion and bravery. For this reason, I’m calling on all men and young boys in the nation to unite and support the advancement of women’s and girls’ sense of belonging in society and in the decision-making processes.

“We cannot keep ignoring the unique requirements and difficulties that women encounter. It is time for society to unite and make sure that every woman has access to the resources and encouragement she needs to thrive.

The president of USPSISA also urged decision-makers and public servants to give women’s rights and gender equality first priority. He urged them to pay attention to the opinions of women and act to remove the structural barriers that prevent women from achieving their full potential.

“We must build a society that is more equal and welcoming for all women. To remove the obstacles in their path and create a future where all women have the opportunity to prosper, we must band together.”
