NINE female candidates will contest the 2024 joint election in Makira and Ulawa provincial wards and constituencies.

Five women have registered to run in the provincial elections, with the following names appearing on the ballot: Pwate Lucy Tyas, who is running for the Ugi and Pio ward; Daro’au Docas, who is running for the Arosi East ward; Aetai Agnes, one of ten candidates running for the Arosi West ward; Edith Hanuagi Kaoho, who is running for the Bauro central ward with six other candidates, including Julian Makaa, the former premier of Makira/Ulawa Province; and finally, Mrs. Annie Omasa Rafeasi, who is running for the Santa Anna ward.

In the National Elections category, a total of four female candidates are among the 44 candidates contesting the parliamentary seats in the four constituencies in Makira/Ulawa Province. Namely, the West Makira constituency, the Central Makira constituency, the East Makira constituency, and finally, the Ulawa/Ugi constituency.

The women who will be contesting the National Elections category in the various constituencies in Makira Ulawa Province are: Crispin Dora Fititei, who is contesting the West Makira constituency under the Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement (SIPRA), Gwendolyn Masuguria, who will be contesting the Central Makira constituency under the People’s Liberal Democratic Party (PLDP), and for the East Makira constituency, Everlyn Kahia, who is contesting under the Solomon Islands United Party (SIUP), and the former Member of Parliament for East Makira constituency herself, Lilly Maefai, anticipating her second term in the 12th Parliament.

Ulawa/Ugi constituency has no female candidate that will be contesting the National General Elections.
