THE Malaita Football Association (MFA) Women’s Capital League 2024 concluded with a thrilling final match between Ailako FC and Wales United in Auki.
The season featured six teams competing for the top spot, with Ailako FC emerging as the champions.
Ailako FC secured the title with a total of 15 points. Midwest FC finished as the runners-up with 8 points, while W4 FC took third place with 7 points. The final standings saw Central United in fourth place, Wales FC in fifth, and GB United in sixth.
The prize presentation ceremony took place immediately after the final game. The awards were distributed as follows:
Consolation Prizes:
1. Fair Play Award – Wales FC
2. Golden Gloves – Nicole Koogani of Ailako FC
3. Golden Ball – Prista Saulania of W4 FC
4. Golden Boot – Patricia Bulu
Team Awards:
- 1st Prize – Ailako FC received a trophy, a cash prize of $7,000, and 28 gold medals.
- 2nd Prize – Midwest FC received a cash prize of $6,000 and 28 silver medals.
- 3rd Prize – W4 FC received a cash prize of $5,000 and 28 bronze medals.
- 4th Prize – Cash prize of $4,000
- 5th Prize – Cash prize of $3,000
- 6th Prize – Cash prize of $2,000
In his speech, the MFA President Timmy Afia expressed gratitude to all the participating teams for their dedication and effort, which made this league a successful and historic event as the first women’s league in Malaita.
He emphasized the MFA’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women in football within the province and encouraged players and coaches to continue their hard work in preparation for the next women’s league.
The MFA President also acknowledged the ongoing support from the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), which provided prizes, equipment, and a timely referee course for the officials.
Finally, he extended his thanks to the supporters of the six participating teams for making the 2024 Women’s Auki Capital League a memorable and successful tournament.
