MORE than 160 market vendors from Barana and Lunga in East Honiara have completed a weeklong financial literacy training today.

The training, held by the Little Vine Foundation at New Hope Academy Hall in Honiara, was the first of its kind for market vendors in Panatina Ward 12. It aimed to teach vendors how to better manage their money and small businesses.

“This training is about giving power to our people,” said Leonisa Seketala, executive board member of the Little Vine Foundation. “Many of our vendors don’t have basic financial skills, so we want to help them keep their businesses going and even grow them.”

Vendors from Lunga, Naha, and Vura markets all took part.

At the closing ceremony, Councilor for Panatina Ward 12, Lydia Yeo, said the event was an important milestone for the community.

“I believe this one-week training has equipped you all to be successful entrepreneurs in the future,” Mrs. Yeo said. “Thank you to the trainers and donor partners for making this possible. I wish you all the best in your business journey.”

The training was supported by the Australian government through DFAT and delivered under the ASIIP program, in partnership with DSC.
