Ms. Idah Tungale has concluded her participation in the UNDP Pacific Floating Budget Office Mission to the Parliament of Fiji, held from 26 June to 3 July 2026, marking a proud moment for Solomon Islands and for women in leadership across the Pacific.

Representing the National Parliament of Solomon Islands, Ms. Tungale joined a select team of parliamentary researchers from Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Vanuatu in a specialised programme designed to strengthen how Pacific legislatures examine and scrutinise national budgets. Her contribution focused on producing clear, impartial budget briefing materials to support Members of Parliament work that directly enhances transparency, accountability and evidence‑based decision‑making. She was supported virtually by Ms. Theresa Nori of the Hansard Department, who participated as an online delegate.

The Pacific Floating Budget Office, established in 2016, is a unique regional initiative that brings together parliamentary researchers to provide independent fiscal analysis during budget debates. Through peer‑to‑peer learning and collaborative research, the FBO equips MPs with reliable information to guide national decision‑making and ensure public funds are managed responsibly.

For Solomon Islands, Ms. Tungale’s participation reflects the Parliament’s growing commitment to strengthening its research capacity and deepening regional cooperation. More importantly, it highlights the rising influence of Solomon Islands women in leadership—women who bring technical expertise, integrity and a strong sense of service to public institutions.

Ms. Tungale’s achievement stands as an inspiring example for young women across the country: leadership is built through courage, knowledge and the determination to serve one’s people. Her journey shows that Solomon Islands women are not only participating in regional governance—they are shaping it.
