A third-year lines mechanic, Lisa Warakohia of Malaita province, took her passion for electrical maintenance and repairs and turned it into a career in a high-demand professional trade with Solomon Power.
“Why I became a line mechanic in the first place is because of the passion I have for this job, enjoying the challenge of identifying and fixing complex problems.
“In this profession, the job is dangerous because we are working with live cables, and as a line mechanic, you have to be ready at all times. Another is not having the strength like the men do to carry out the job.
“But the main thing that I would like to highlight here is the team support I get from my male colleagues in working together and helping one another during our job. They always give us confidence by encouraging us to work together to complete our tasks,” said Lisa in an interview with SOLOMON WOMEN.
As a line mechanic at Solomon Power, Lisa has excelled at resolving complex issues over the years. After completing her seventh form, she apprenticed in 2018 and enrolled in the company’s training program in 2022, becoming one of the few remaining female mechanics.
Despite the numerous obstacles a female line mechanic must overcome, Lisa and her colleagues were able to put in a lot of effort and accomplish their daily objectives.
Lisa has been working with Solomon Power for six years and is set to begin her third year in the line mechanic profession.
“The best thing I love most about doing my job is having to be a part of a team in solving problems and finding solutions when a major fault occurs,” she said.
