SOLOMON Islands female amateur boxer and silver medalist at the XVII Pacific Games Louisa Eme Ngoni says she aims to improve her performance in future competitions.
Despite falling short of the gold medal in her recent competition at the Pacific Games 2023 in Honiara, Louisa is taking this experience as an opportunity for growth and is determined to come back stronger.
Having showcased exceptional boxing skills throughout the competition, Louisa faced stiff competition to earn silver after she was beaten by a formidable opponent, Bali Goli from Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the women’s 48kg category medal finals held at the Friendship Hall in Honiara. She sees her experience as a path to improve as a female boxer in the country.
The 24-year-old from Western Province is a product of the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport, has been participating in a high-performance intensive training program since April 2022.
“After one and a half years of hard training, I think reaching the finals and settling for the silver medal is a significant achievement for me,” Louisa told SOLOMON WOMEN.
The young female boxer’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a source of pride for the Solomon Islands, showcasing the talent and dedication emerging from the country’s sports high performance development programs.
“I wish to thank SINIS for supporting me since the start of my preparations ahead of the XVII Pacific Games 2023 last year,” said Louisa, acknowledging the Institute’s crucial role in her development as an amateur boxing athlete.
As Louisa looks ahead to future challenges, her silver medal at the Pacific Games stands as evidence of her hard work and determination in the world of women’s boxing.
