A young Solomon Islands Women in Business Association female member is pleased after showcasing her products during the recent Meres Market event held last week.

The progress of the bimonthly Meres Market event encourages individual young girls in urban societies to expose their hidden talents and skills by becoming registered members of the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) Organization.

Rose Tagini, 22 years old from Malaita Province said: “The significance of Meres Market is to allow individuals to have greater opportunities and chance to expose their talents and skills to the public and also provide an avenue for the young women to earn income to meet the increasing demand that one normally face today.

“As a young woman among mature and elderly women involved in such prestigious event like this an eye-opener, it boasts my interest and self-confidence and also I had learned new ideas to improve my skills,” she said.

Young Tagini is specifically talented in creating jewelry such as earrings, neckless, and armbands made out of local materials and then remolding original products from the shops into her designs.

She said she started to develop her interest in selling her product last year after witnessing the lack of local jewelry products in the town.

“While the public demand is very much increasing for such products locally and even overseas.

“I work hard every second even during my free and busy times at least to meet the demands in time. The increasing demand for local jewelry from my customers inspired my interest and pushed me to work extra hard to produce more,” said Tagini.

She said she really enjoys the work and doesn’t even think of trying anything new as the money she earned from her products is good. Involving with SIWIBA Women in their program helped her acquire new knowledge, and skills and gave her confidence to become what she is today.

“I enjoy being with older women whose experience and broader knowledge in business helped me a lot.”

Ms. Tagini is calling on other young girls who also have talents and skills to come out and be involved with older and experienced women who had already succeeded in starting their small businesses as a platform to build their confidence and learn new skills to run their own business.
