AS women around the world celebrate International Women’s Day, Elizabeth Tolilalo, the secretary of the Women’s Salvation Army Church Organization, reflects on her journey and the women who have shaped her life.
In an exclusive interview with the SOLOMON WOMEN, she shares her personal story, emphasizing the importance of recognizing both the struggles and triumphs of being a woman.
“The International Women’s Day means a lot to me. It helps me realize how important a woman is,” Elizabeth said. “It has helped me recognize myself as a grassroots woman who has risen up to be a leader and who can now communicate with other women leaders and women with high status, learning from their journeys and building myself with pride and motivation.”
Throughout her journey, Elizabeth has been inspired by the encouragement and example of other women, including Sophia Alaki, who made a significant impact on her life.
“Sophia has inspired me with her example, motivating women to turn their talents into livelihood opportunities. I am blessed to have her as a part of my journey,” Elizabeth shared.
One moment that stands out for Elizabeth as a source of pride is the recognition she receives from her husband. In a culture where men are often seen as the decision-makers, Elizabeth is grateful that her husband acknowledges her hard work and efforts.
“My husband does not see me as just a housewife. He recognizes my efforts and supports me. This has been the proudest moment of my life,” Elizabeth said.
As she celebrates this year’s International Women’s Day, Elizabeth encourages other women in Solomon Islands to embrace their strength and independence.
“A strong woman can do anything by herself. Don’t let anyone hold you back. Keep moving forward,” she said with conviction.
For Elizabeth, this day serves not only as a reminder of her own journey but also as a celebration of the countless women who support and inspire each other every day.
