The Seif Ples Centre at Rove in Honiara marked a major step forward in the fight against gender-based violence with the launch of a new digital database on Thursday, June 12.

With the theme “Empowering communities through access to information,” the event was attended by government officials, community leaders, and development partners.

Permanent Secretary for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Karen Galo Kale, described the new system as a milestone in improving care and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

“Access to accurate, timely, and secure information is essential for effective service delivery,” she said. “This database helps us move toward a more coordinated, informed, and survivor-centered system.”

The Seif Ples database will help frontline workers keep records safely, track trends, identify service gaps, and improve policy decisions. It is expected to reduce the burden on staff and help provide more consistent and confidential care to those in need.

Seif Ples Centre Manager Brightlyn Beauty shared her excitement about the change.

“Before, we recorded everything on paper. Now we’re proud to have a secure system where we can keep our data safely,” she said.

The database launch is part of a broader project to strengthen crisis response services for women, children, and youth in the Solomon Islands. The initiative is supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and ChildFund New Zealand.

Permanent Secretary Kale thanked all partners involved for their ongoing commitment to a safer, more supportive system for survivors.

“This tool is not just technical—it’s a compassionate one that will help us build trust and improve lives,” she said.
