SOLOMON Islands National Women’s Football team has started their training sessions in preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers in July this year.
Speaking to the Solomon Women’s News during one of their training sessions, Head Coach, Batram Suri said the team is preparing for the upcoming 2022 OFC Women’s Nations Cup that will serve as Oceania qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
According to Head coach Suri, the training sessions started three weeks ago. He said the preparations were not easy as the team is trying to train in line with the covid situation.
“We started off our training sessions with five players, one hour for each session. There are three sessions each day.
“We then increased the players to eight in two groups for one session and now we reduce our training sessions from three to two sessions per day,” coach Batram said.
He said that despite the challenges they face with the covid situation, he is happy with the girl’s improvement and said that the girls have worked hard putting much effort into their preparations.
“I am happy to see the girls really committed. They have improved a lot in terms of fitness and techniques as we look forward to working more on tactics with them.”
He said he is proud of the girls because they have worked humble and worked hard and believe that it will improve football, especially women’s soccer on international levels.
Coach Batram said he is confident that the team will make positive results for the country starting with their preparations and more importantly pull up the ranking of the women’s team to another level.
The team is currently continuing with their trainings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays a week but will change as of next week when the whole team is completed, according to Head Coach, Batram Suri.
