IN the Solomon Islands, women play a crucial role in achieving the right to food for a better life and a better future, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock officer, Leah Bently.

Leah Bently of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s (MAL) Gender Mainstreaming Extension Department brought attention to this on Thursday during the second day of World Food Day events at Solomon Islands National University Panatina FOPA village.

Bently emphasized that women work tirelessly to ensure their families have food on the table.

Their resilience and resourcefulness in the face of challenges like climate change and natural disasters keep our communities strong and food secure.

“Today I stand here on behalf of the many women in agriculture who contribute significantly to our nation’s food security. Women farmers, processors, and agribusiness leaders work hard each day, providing fresh produce like cassava and other essential crops. Through their efforts, they sustain our markets with healthy, nutritious foods for everyone.

She also said that we must be proud of women officers in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

“Across the provinces, these women bring essential services to farmers. Their experience and dedication are helping build successful farms and a resilient food system,” she said.

She also extends her gratitude to all the women farmers and agribusiness leaders whose work enriches our nation.

“Together, let’s continue to support and strengthen their contributions, ensuring fresh, healthy, and nutritious food for every family,” she said.
