SOLOMON Islands Karate Federation got involved in Olympic Day celebrations as they marked the annual event with a series of events at the Solomon Islands National Sports Institution grounds, East of Honiara.
The day is held every year on June 23 to mark the date when Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Movement in 1894.
As part of the event, young local female karate athletes joined with the nation’s experienced female competitors to perform a series of katas.
Solomon Islands Women’s Karate coach, Selwyn Kuru told Solomon Women that the event is a special day for the country’s female karate athletes where athletes demonstrate a series of offensive and defensive movements.
“I am happy and proud of the girls as they performed with confidence to mark the global event,” he said.
He also acknowledge Dr. Andy Roosen who introduced Shorin Ryu Karate in the Solomon Islands.
“Now the girls have reaped the harvest of what Dr. Andy Roosen has planted in the country, which I am very proud of.”
