SEPI women in Sepi village, West Bugotu, Isabel province launched their Fisheries Initiative Programme last weekend in Sepi village.
The programme aims to improve the quality and supply of fresh fish and other marine products to Honiara and other market outlets around the country.
Sepi Women Fisheries Initiative Representative Edith Bako described the day as another milestone for women in Sepi village.
“Today marks another milestone in the history of our women in Sepi village,” she said.
“Sepi women’s Fisheries initiative is the village Fisheries center which was initiated to assist and help not only women who have directly involved in the project but for the general populace of Sepi village and the nearby villages as well.
She said that the project was indeed an income-generating initiative for women to assist them in their daily livelihood.
The initiative, which was tailored under the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Programme is geared towards supporting downstream processing and value adding to fish and other marine products.
The program aims to improve the quality and supply of fresh fish and other marine products to Honiara and other market outlets in the country supported by the National Government through the Ministry of Commerce Industry Labour and Immigration last year.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Bako acknowledges the Ministry of Commerce Industry, labor, and Immigration, for their great assistance in providing the necessary equipment and facilities for the project.
She also thanked Mr. Karamui for his great assistance in leading them and facilitating the project to ensure that the project is completed within the given time frame.
Mrs. Bako extended her acknowledgment to all women and children for all their hard work in making the fisheries project complete.
