ANOTHER four-day Senior Executive Women in Leadership Program is underway in Honiara for 2024 aimed at building a pool of businesswomen and professional women with relevant knowledge and skills required to enable them to effectively participate in the decision-making process at higher organizational levels.
The program is designed for women in executive and senior management roles who want to deepen their knowledge of business operations, develop strong networks with other senior women, build confidence in areas including governance and refresh their professional brand.
The Solomon Islands Senior Executive Women in Leadership Program is delivered through a partnership between the Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA), the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA).
Since it started in 2023 a total of 65 women leaders have participated in the program who are now in leadership roles in their respective organizations including the ten from the current cohort.
Speaking at the opening of the program for the 2024 cohort this week in Honiara, SICCI’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr James Dolarii acknowledged the ten participants for this year for taking up this capacity-building experience.
“Leadership is vital and critical to the success of any institution, be it an NGO, Government or the private sector.
“Women contribute to the development of Solomon Islands as a nation in all areas and works of life and it is right to say we need more women in our decision-making platforms,” he said.
The SICCI CEO encouraged the participants to make full use of this valuable opportunity to sharpen, build and cement your leadership capacity and capabilities.
ISIA Chief Executive Officer, Ms Pamela Alamu highlighted that with this program they hope to provide participants with relevant knowledge and skills in key areas that are important as a starting basis to support them in building their overall leadership skills.
“With the knowledge they will gain from these four days of training, we believe that participants should gain an overall picture of leadership in higher-decision positions which they can build on.
“Participants will also be provided with a participant handbook that they can use as reference guide to support them after they have completed this training” she said.
This training program was developed in 2022 under the Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI) Program which was implemented by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and funded by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.
It was piloted out in 2023 by the implementing Partners and now owned and continue to be delivered through the collaboration.
The Partner Organisations intend to continue to support this initiative and look at further initiatives to strengthen and support women’s progress and participation in higher decision-making positions in Solomon Islands.
