WESTERN Province Council of Women President, Mrs Rendy Solomon has recently acknowledge the work of Safe Families Project through Oxfam in the Solomon Islands and describes it as effective in the communities in Western Province over the past years.
Mrs Solomon told Solomon Women that the Safe families’ project has been implemented for past years since January 2019 and already they have seen its positive impacts in the communities.
“We have seen positive impacts in the communities in western province through the Safe Families project the past years since the program started.
“Safe Families project is more on building the capacity of Oxfam to work with communities in Western Province to keep families safe from domestic violence.
“This work is more on influencing, empowering, responding and prevention on abuse and domestic violence working with our communities, families and societies and our decision makers on how to work together to make our home, society and province and nation as a whole to become a safe place for our families to live.
“I believe that we have the family protection act 2014 to protect us which is one of the major goals for us citizens in the country and to work towards,” the Western Province Council of Women (WPCW) President said.
She noted that on behalf of the Western Province Council of Women, including ordinary women, political leaders and people of Western Province, she wanted to acknowledge Australian government through its Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for its support towards this project.
“I also want acknowledge the mother body National Council of Women, including the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children And Family Affairs and also not forgetting other key stakeholders who supported this workshop.
“I would also like to thank the Government of Solomon islands for the Family Protection Act 2014 which we see as a beacon of hope through this Act we will comply to make our environment in our homes and communities safe.”
