THE overall winner of the ‘Junior Students Category’ Award of the Secondary School Poster and Essay Competition on Women’s Leadership and Political Participation, Danielle Baura says artistic students should be very supportive in the idea of having women’s political participation in Parliament.
The young female student encouraged gifted and talented artistic students and youths to support women leaders through artwork painting and sketching.
“We can speak out in many ways and one of them is through art. Together we can up lift women leaders to go into parliament and support them to make a change to our nation,” she told Solomon Women.
Danielle represented Woodford International School in the junior category of the secondary school essay and poster competition.
She said as the overall winner of the female junior category, I feel very happy to have participated in the essay writing section and have able to win the first prize which is a laptop.”
“I am also happy to have the privilege to write about some of the key elements to achieve gender equality in schools in the country. The most important thought is that I think that women should have the chance to be political leaders in the parliament.
“It was a wonderful privilege to have entered the competition and am looking forward to be a woman leader in the future,” the female winner said.
The 2017-2018 competition has attracted increased participation of 170 poster and essay entries from 31 schools throughout the Solomon Islands. This is a dramatic increase from the 41 entries that competed in the 2016 competition.
