Women from across Buma Parish in West Kwaio, Malaita Province gathered on Thursday, 13 August 2026, to begin a three‑day celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the most significant feasts in the Catholic calendar.
The event brings together women’s groups from Zones 1 to 8, stretching from Dori’o to communities around the Langa Langa Lagoon. Organized by the Buma Parish Women’s Group, the gathering aims to strengthen faith, fellowship and unity among parish communities.
According to Seno Nauta, Coordinator of the Buma Parish Women’s Group for Zones 1–8, the program includes arrival and orientation, spiritual talks, adoration, the Rosary, and the main Assumption celebration.
Women from all eight zones arrived throughout the day, followed by an evening orientation session.
A highlight of the opening was the arrival of the statue of Mother Mary, transported by outboard motor from Langa Langa Lagoon (Zone 8). Women from Zones 1 and 2 formally received the statue before leading a procession to the church, marking the official start of the celebration.
The second day focuses on spiritual formation, featuring talks, adoration and the Rosary. These activities provide time for women to deepen their faith and reflect on their roles within the parish and their wider communities.
Saturday marks the main celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the central purpose of the gathering. Women will remain until Sunday for the closing Mass, after which they will return to their respective communities. The three‑day celebration, coordinated by Seno Nauta, brings together women from all zones in a shared expression of faith, unity and commitment to strengthening parish life
