SOLOMON Islands hockey player, Alice Alide is eying to make her debut and be part of the team to represent the country at next year’s Pacific Games in Honiara.

She is now engaged in preparations under the high-performance training program with the women’s national hockey squad at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS). The XVII Pacific Games is scheduled to be held from 19 November to 2 December 2023.

While speaking about the teams’ ongoing preparations, Alice told Solomon Women that she is targeting to represent the Solomon Islands at the next year’s Games.

“As an athlete, I’ve always had the dream of going to the Games. For now, I am currently undergoing my intensive training at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports ahead of the 2023 Pacific Games,” she said. “I want to be physically fit and competitive before the Games, therefore, I am focusing all my training efforts on the gym.”

She said that she hopes to fulfill her gold medal dreams with other members of the women’s national hockey.

“My focus is on the Pacific Games and I will be very happy if not just me, every player of the squad playing today, gets to compete in the Games. We have been playing together for years and the relationship between us is very good. We keep encouraging all our teammates during the scheduled training,” Alice said.

Alice was introduced to hockey in 2015, whilst studying at the Betikama Adventist College.

“Since I got involved with hockey, I was more determined after having an amazing experience playing the sports. I had the opportunity to travel abroad with my team and compete in international and regional hockey competitions,” she said.

Alice thanked the Solomon Islands Hockey Federation for supporting them in the best way possible and also her family for believing in her passion for hockey as a sport.

“I am thankful to both Hockey Solomon Islands and my family for doing this much in our journey.

“I have been getting all the best possible support from the staff at SINIS ahead of the Games. Our coach is also working especially hard to make us fully prepared for the Games next year in Honiara,” she said
