Solomon Islands very own female weight lifter said that she is looking to continue mentoring young interested weightlifters after she arrives home from participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Mary Kini confirmed this in an interview with Rawsports recently.

She mentioned that with the experiences gained from the recent Olympics, she is well prepared to share and mentor young interest weightlifters after she comes home from the Olympic Games.

‘I was really happy to represent the country and to learn new ideas from other internationals athletes from other first world countries. When I return home, I should share this idea learned to our young lifters” She said.

“Training our weight lifters both males and females was the first thing I observe after drop out from the Olympic matches especially when realising certain opportunities and skills from other opponents, so I have to put them into record to share them with our young upcoming lifters,” Kini said.

Kini in the meantime revealed that the Association has already identified certain potential athletes from the recent High School Games (NSSG).

“The association already eyed some potential players from the recent High School Games.

“When we return, we’ll do the selection of potential weightlifters from not only Honiara but in the provinces as well,” Mary Kini said.

Mary Kini competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the women’s 55 kg weight category and finished 14th in the event at the Tokyo International Forum Exhibition Center.
