CHELSEA Osifelo Praise, a 17-year-old of mixed ethnicity, whose father is originally from Malaita and whose mother is of Temotu and Shortland origin, was a key volunteer in the 2023 Pacific Games, demonstrating her enthusiasm and dedication to the Games Organizing Committee.
The young teenager’s journey is a tale of commitment, service, cultural pride, new friendships, and the lasting impact of a unique experience.
Chelsea expressed her excitement and joy about being part of the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) team in an interview with SOLOMON WOMEN.
“This is a big event, and I am really happy to be part of it,” she said with a smile. “Being surrounded by athletes from different Pacific nations who came to the Games was such an awesome and new experience for me.”
Chelsea was chosen along with other volunteers, and she was instrumental in bringing visitors from abroad to Honiara’s Games City venue.
She became a living example of her cultural heritage, displaying the rich diversity that the Pacific region embodies while wearing the colorful traditional costumes of the Malaita people.
Reflecting on this unique opportunity, Chelsea expressed her gratitude to friends and family for their unwavering support.
“Thank you so much for all of your support during these Pacific Games in Honiara.
“This event will be forever remembered in my lifetime and will be written in my history,” Chelsea proudly said.
Chelsea was able to embrace the challenges and benefits that came with volunteering for such a big event because her loved ones were there to support her on her journey.
Her words reverberated with her love for her country, highlighting the spirit of unity that drives nations forward. Chelsea views the Pacific Games as a platform for international cooperation where nations unite to celebrate their common history and diversity, rather than just as a sporting event.

“I will remember this moment for the rest of her life—the opening ceremony of the XVII Pacific Games in 2023,” she said.
