THE Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has organised this year’s first event of ‘Girls football festival’ targeting all girls in Honiara town at the Lawson Tama stadium today.
During the event, a variety of football activities and football games were held for all girls who attended the festival event.
Speaking to the Solomon Women’s newspaper, Antoinette Miniti, SIFFs women development officer said, the purpose of festival is to bring out all girls between the ages range of 8-12 to join in the fun and to celebrate the event to build the interest in football during the girls early age.
“We would like to see many girls little girls these ages to grow up building their interest in football in their early age,” she said.
Ms Miniti thanked all parents and guardians who showed their support in bringing their children out to join in the festival event today.
She also encouraged all girls to must take part in soccer activities and join in women’s clubs and teams in schools and around in town to build the interest in soccer as they grow older.
“Continue to play soccer, it is an interesting sport to have fun, meet new friends and to be our next girl’s football stars in the near future,” Ms Miniti encouraged.
Ms Miniti in the meantime, acknowledged the Australia High Commission for sponsoring free T Shirts worn by all the girls who attended festival event.
The festival was a short successful event and was helped out by volunteers from SIFF including training coaches under SIFF who helped out to do practical coaching and supervising during today’s festival event.
