DIVORCE is a subject which was once a social stigma, has become increasingly popular in our society today. It is seen that married couples are walking away from their marriages for varied reasons. Earlier, there were very few cases of divorce and the main causes were adultery and domestic violence.

This week Solomon Women Newspaper have an opportunity to get an exclusive interview with Sonnie (pen-name) as she openly shared her personnel experience.

Solomon Women Newspaper (SWN): Brief introduction about yourself.

Sonnie Vumali (SV): Hi, I am Sonnie Vumali and a single mother of three. I was legally married and got separated since then.

SWN: How long have you been living alone?

SV: I have been living along for about ten years.

SWN: What was the hardest part about being divorced?

SV: The hardest part about being divorced (separated) is when finally I had to start from where I am, a new life of being oneself and the feeling of trying to cope up with a new situation and try grasping new strength to move on with my children.

SWN: What is the best part of being a mum despite being divorced?

SV: The best part is when I am becoming independent now and making decisions that involves children and on 24 hours alert when they need me I am always for them. Despite all this now a working mum, my heart always focuses on them and even our bond together remains stronger.

SWN: How has your experience changed you?

SV: My experienced had given me a lot of courage, more commitment and also emotional, physical and spiritual strength. That past had taken me this far, it had empowered me to be who I am now.

SWN: What advice would you give other women struggling with such situation?

SV: My advice is never give up when it comes to finance and never allow a problem step over you. Be upright and life is not the end this world is full of opportunities, You have skills and hobbies, develop them into business ideas and start a small income generating business or else seek employment to support your family. Just remember this always our God sees your last tears and he never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5)

SWN: Anything else you like to share?

SV: You are not alone in this situation. Seek counselling and help from our safe net agents. They are there to help you towards your situation you gone through. Finally I want to share this, after going through all this challenges it had directed me to a job of counselling and social referrals. I know our good Lord is gracious and after all this He has put me for who I am because of my past.
