IT is every student’s dream to be able to work hard on their studies to achieve once in their lifetime top academic awards.
This year is a proud moment for Bridget Poiohia, who received the highest distinction award in front of his parents and fellow schoolmates of St Joseph’s Tenaru National Secondary School.
Bridget is a female student of the prestigious catholic school in the Solomon Islands and she is a form six arts student.
Young graduate Poiohia was given the school’s top academic award of the year during the graduation and price-giving ceremony held last weekend.
She was rewarded St Joseph’s Tenaru dux student of the year after she topped all arts subjects. As a recipient of the prestigious academic award, Poiohia also received a leadership award for her leadership quality demonstrated at the end of the school academic year.
After all, she was very excited and pleased with her fine academic achievements as the dux recipient of 2015.
Speaking after receiving both awards, Poiohia said she is proud and delighted with her achievements.
“I believed that I deserved to obtain such awards because I work hard to achieve them.”
The excited young Poiohia praised herself for her effort and acknowledged that without God she might not be competent to achieve those awards.
“I am very proud and honored and therefore, I would like to thank the Almighty God for the wisdom, knowledge, and strength that he had to bestow on me. Without God, I might do nothing.”
When asked what is your secret to getting such fine achievements? She said it’s through study and prayer.
“I do not believe in anything else other than prayer and study. I always believe in God and seriously focus on my studies. The key is by seeing your books as your best friend before you could think of any other things,” Poiohia said.
Poiohia added that commitment to studies must also be balanced with other social activities to relax your mind and prevent fatigue.
“If you heavily involved yourself with studies, you will feel exhausted and overwhelmed so it is important to balance studies with other social activities to keep the rhythm of your learning process more fascinating and enjoyable.
“It is not wrong to involve in other social activities but it must be a school-organized social activity within the school compound. Although it’s part of social entertainment and enjoyment students must not take it to the extreme limit or else they might miss their education and future.
The 2015 dux urged her fellow students and other students in the country to prioritize study because no one is educated nor no one is uneducated.
“The intellectual capacity of our brains depends much on the time we engage ourselves with study and more effort putting on schoolwork,” she said.
Poiohia’s father told Solomon Women that he is very proud of his daughter’s tremendous achievement and also acknowledged the time and effort she sacrificed in her studies.
