30 participants of women and girls with disabilities in Honiara successfully completed a one day workshop on economic empowerment through saving money scheme at the People with Disability Solomon Island head office last week.

Speaking with Disability Women Empowerment Association (DWEA) assistant coordinator Elena Kelly said the workshop is very important and aims to provide will be a great help to the women and girls.

“It is an accessible way to save money for future and other important purposes, as this has always been a need for many of the women and girls due to lack of access to these services,” Elena said.

She said that this will also be a great help to these women and girls to cut down barriers they face in travelling to access bank services in order to save money,” she explained.

DWEA assistant coordinator also acknowledges the facilitators of the workshop the NPF youSave team who gave the opportunity for the women to access how to save.

She also thanked the women and girls who made an effort to come along to attend the very important workshop.

The participants also received new mobile phones and SIM Cards from PWD office handed over to them by PWDSI Manager Casper Faasala.
Mr Fa’asala said the phones will help them with their savings as soon as they register to join yousave.

He also mentioned that the program is the first following by another two programs yet to be carried out for the Disability Women Empowerment Association (DWEA).
