SOLOMON Islands Women in Business Association’s ‘Mini Trade Fair Market – ‘Kam Baek Event’ kicked off today at the Justice Grounds at Point Cruz in Honiara,  where women entrepreneurs are expected to participate and showcase their outstanding local products.

The four-day ‘Mini Trade Fair Market was organized by the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) in collaboration with the Strongim Bisnis, an Australian Government initiative working with the private sector in Solomon Islands.

Speaking at the opening of the event, SIWIBA Organising Committee Chairlady, Ethel Saelea said that after weeks of preparations by the board and committee they are happy to witness the opening of the event.

The Chairlady also welcomed the general public to take part in the four-day program, saying that the event was purposely to empower local women business entrepreneurs affected by the covid-19 pandemic over the past years.

“There are so many products that will be showcased by local women business entrepreneurs during this event, so please come and see for yourself and enjoy with us,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Honiara City Council Lord Mayor, Councillor Eddie Siapu congratulated SIWIBA for organising the event.

“The Trade fair will provide an opportunity for women in business to show case their goods, connect with members from the private sector and each other as we return to business and recover from the effects of the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want to commend SIWIBA for this initiative as it is very important to revive interests of the members and restore cooperation and networking among themselves.

“The Council will continue to promote empowerment of women through its program and activities and in whatever way we can, the council will look to strengthen collaboration with women and groups and build better partnerships going forward.

The four days event will go concurrently with the Solomon Islands 44th Independence Anniversary celebrations’ on Thursday in Honiara.
