The Honiara Central Market Vendors Association joined rural farmers in a special celebration for 2025 International Rural Women’s Day at Dolphin View Homestay in Aruligo, North West Guadalcanal yesterday.

International Rural Women’s Day, celebrated every year on October 15, recognizes the vital role of rural women in agriculture, food security, and reducing rural poverty.

Speaking to the SOLOMON WOMEN, Honiara Central Market Vendors Association (HCCVA) President Moreen Sariki said the event was a way to honor the hardworking women who supply fresh food to the central market every day.

“These rural farmers are the main suppliers of food products to the central market each day,” she said. “We need to keep the link with them and maintain a strong relationship.”

The celebration included activities such as sharing marketing ideas, exchanging skills, discussing challenges, sharing testimonies, and enjoying a lunch together. Local food recipes were also shared with the rural women farmers.

Sariki thanked DFAT and UN Women’s Market4Change for sponsoring the event. She also encouraged rural vendors to join the association.

“Being part of the association helps us work together, avoid misunderstandings, and build stronger relationships in marketing,” she said.
