The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is delighted to announce the appointment of Jean Eroa Manepora’a as the new Director for Biosecurity Solomon Islands and the first female to do so. This historic appointment marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards promoting women’s leadership in key decision-making roles.
More importantly, Mrs. Manepora’a brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, having served in various capacities within the Ministry, including Senior Quarantine Officer and Chief Plant Protection Officer. Her impressive academic credentials include a Master’s in Agriculture (Economics) from the University of the South Pacific (2022), a Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture Crop Science (2017), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science (2006).
As Director for Biosecurity Solomon Islands, Mrs. Manepora’a will oversee the implementation of the Biosecurity Act 2013, ensuring the effective prevention of animal and plant pests and diseases entering the country. Her leadership will be crucial in facilitating international cooperation and regulating the movement of animals and plants.

Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Manepora’a, saying, “Your achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a historic moment for our nation – a proud testament to the growing role of women in leadership and decision-making in the Solomon Islands. Meanwhile Dr. Viulu the Permanent Secretary and staffs of the Ministry look forward to working closely with Ms. Manepora’a and the Biosecurity team to enhance border protection systems, uphold compliance with international standards, and promote safe trade that benefits our farmers, businesses, and communities.

Biosecurity Solomon Islands is a department within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, mandated to prevent the entry of animal and plant pests and diseases into Solomon Islands, control their establishment and spread, and regulate the movement of animals and plants and their products.
