LOCAL female journalist and radio presenter recently received the 2022 Media Association of Solomon Islands Recognition Awards.
Emma Komasi Martin is from the Malaita province and works at the ZFM 99.5 music radio station as news presenter and journalist for the past 4 years.
Emma has attributed her journalistic style to her personal approach on the radio waves. After all, she graduated from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Journalism School with a Certificate of Media and Journalism in 2017.
Emma told Solomon Women that it was a mixed feeling when she was called to receive the Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) Recognition Award.
“I didn’t expect the award that night when they called my name. I was shocked and a little nervous because I was not expecting to receive an award that night and after receiving the award I felt happy shy, proud a mixed feeling of joy,” she said.
“As a woman, to be a journalist can be tough, because we have our own responsibilities and commitments besides work and sometimes it may be really hard.
“But after all journalist is where I can be the voice for others and keeping people to stay up to the current affairs and what is happening around in the country locally, regional and international,” she said after scooping the award.
Emma also acknowledged those who supported her journalistic journey.
“I want to acknowledge Jeremy Gwao and Cynthia Seda my two media colleagues for their support and to ZFM station manager for supporting me to work hard.
“To my husband and family for always supporting me and a big thanks to MASI’s Madam President Georgina Kekea for recognizing as a supportive member to MASI.”
She encouraged young journalists in the local media industry to never give up in whatever they do, but always learn to face the challenges ahead by not giving up.
