While Team Solomon’s squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland is dominated by male athletes, three determined women are set to proudly carry the nation’s hopes on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
Representing three different sports, Georgina Samo George (Judo), Loise Bently (Swimming) and Jenly Tegu Wini (Weightlifting) will join eight male teammates as part of the 11-athlete contingent representing Solomon Islands at the Commonwealth Games.
Their selection is a testament to the growing opportunities for women in elite sport and highlights the dedication, resilience and hard work required to compete at the international level.
At just 22 years old, Loise Bently from Western Province will represent Solomon Islands in the women’s 50m freestyle, bringing youthful energy and determination to the national swimming team.
23-year-old Georgina Samo George from Malaita Province, who will compete in the 63kg judo division. Her inclusion reflects the steady progress of women’s judo in Solomon Islands and provides another opportunity to showcase local talent on the Commonwealth stage.
The most experienced female athlete in the team is Jenly Tegu Wini, 43, from Malaita Province. A respected name in Solomon Islands sport and will be competing in the 53kg weightlifting category, adding invaluable experience and leadership to Team Solomon. Her continued presence at the elite level demonstrates remarkable longevity and commitment to representing her country.
Although women make up just under one-third of Team Solomon, their participation represents more than just numbers. Their presence reflects the continued growth of women’s sport in Solomon Islands and serves as an inspiration to young girls across the country who aspire to compete at the highest level.
The remaining members of Team Solomon include four boxers—Clinton Tetekana, Maximillian B. Makana, Fdicks Lio and Fosward Talaka—alongside athletes Stephen Rahuasi and Junior Geejay in athletics, Alister M. Sukhamana in judo, Moffet Tolomae in para powerlifting, and swimmer Bijay G. Garry.
As Team Solomon prepares for Glasgow 2026 under the banner “One Team. One Nation. One Dream.” The nation’s three female athletes will not only be competing for medals but also helping pave the way for greater female participation in sport for future generations.
