Prime Minister Honourable Manasseh Sogavare has commended the Our Telekom Miss Solomon Islands Pageant for actively promoting progress and prosperity.
In his statement during last night’s crowing of Miss Solomon Islands 2022-2023, Prime Minister Sogavare states, this year’s theme Celebrating Women Resilience in the Face of Global Crises… “could not be more timely and relevant as it is being hosted against the backdrop of ongoing global crises including climate change, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic that affects us on multiple fronts and at all levels.”
The show itself generates momentum that breath life into efforts of our women and girls in contributing and adding value to the process of nation building, the Prime Minister emphasized.
“…I would like to believe that your participation in this contest will be a springboard to success in life. Use this platform to build your confidence and realise your full potential in being part of our peaceful and harmonious society,” Prime Minister Sogavare told the Six young ladies demonstrating their expertise and talents in the various categories of appearances.
To put it simply, beauty is found in the heart. It is found through the values that guide our lives such as love, generosity, understanding, acceptance, charity, honour and integrity, he said.
The Prime Minister commended the contestants for remaining engaged and active in promoting progress and prosperity.
“I am delighted to note that our contestants have been advocating on number of issues ranging from women in leadership, women in business and entrepreneurship, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, issues regarding children with special needs and climate change.”
He further stressed, these are issues that affect the very foundation of our society. Women are the backbone of our families and society and issues affecting them, affects us all.
Last night’s event revealed not only the young contestants physical beauty, but also demonstrated their talents, cultural diversity and attire, intelligence, and character turn their fine physical traits into sincere beauty.
Last night’s show categories include sarong appearance, talent demonstration, contemporary traditional attire and stage interview.
The Prime Minister also congratulated and thanked the organizers in particular, the Solomon Host, for convening the event despite the many challenges the country faced. Business houses especially Our Telekom Company Ltd were also saluted for generously supporting this year’s Miss Solomon Islands Pageant.
Prime Minister Sogavare accentuated, the winner of the Our Telekom Miss Solomon Islands this year, Miss Western Province, Tiare Haro will have the honour to represent Solomon Islands in regional events…. “you will be our ambassador. You will be the bearer of our flag at the regional level. Your representation symbolizes the beauty of our Solomon Islands, our home, the spirit of our people, and the essence of what it means to be a Solomon Islander.”
