TAEKWONDO Practitioner, Meissa Yvonne aims to make her debut at the next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Yvonne, 33, a primary teacher by profession told Solomon Women that she took up Taekwondo in 2018, and now she is working hard with other local taekwondo athletes undergoing high performance scheduled trainings at the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sports complex in East Honiara.
“For now, my aim is to get selected and be part of the Solomon Islands Taekwondo team to represent the country at the next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara,” she said with a smile.
Yvonne is an active and committed member of the Royal Taekwondo Club and has previously won medals in the club level competitions in Honiara.
According to her experience at the domestic level taekwondo competitions and the series of intensive scheduled training at the country’s National Institution of Sports has given her more confidence to win a medal at next year’s Pacific Games in Honiara.
“For now, I have an aim and that is to be selected in the final taekwondo squad to compete against other top regional athletes the next year’s 2023 South Pacific Games,” she said.
She later thanked the technical staff of the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sports complex for their continuing support to provide the right venue and training equipment for her and other taekwondo athletes to train.
