THE Young Women’s Parliamentary Group (YWPG) is pleased to announce the election of Mrs. Mary Keqa-Vasaro as its new Chairlady 2024-2026, marking an exciting new chapter for the organization.
Mrs. Keqa-Vasaro, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, youth development, and social justice, takes on this prestigious leadership role with a clear vision for advancing the work of the group in the years to come.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Keqa-Vasaro expressed her profound gratitude to the members of the YWPG for entrusting her with this responsibility and extended her heartfelt thanks to the outgoing executive members for their dedication, hard work, and impactful leadership.
“I am both honored and humbled to be elected as Chairlady of the Young Women’s Parliamentary Group,” said Mrs. Keqa-Vasaro. “The work of the previous executive has laid a solid foundation for our mission, and I am committed to building on their remarkable achievements. Together, we will continue to advocate for the rights, welfare, and active participation of young women in all areas of public life, ensuring that their voices are heard and their contributions recognized.”
Mrs. Keqa-Vasaro emphasized the importance of unity within the group and highlighted the need for continued collaboration with parliamentary members, government ministries, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to create a sustainable and inclusive environment for young women in politics, leadership, and beyond.
Under Mrs. Keqa-Vasaro’s leadership, the YWPG aims to focus on critical issues such as gender equality, ending domestic violence, access to education & health, youth leadership development, and creating policies that directly impact young women. Her vision is to build a network of empowered young women who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and platforms needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
“I am determined to continue the work that has been started, ensuring that the progress made is sustained and amplified,” she added. “We will work hard to support young women in navigating the challenges they face while also empowering them to lead with confidence and resilience.”
The YWPG, with its newly elected Chairlady, looks forward to engaging with all members and supporters to create a bright future where young women play an essential role in shaping the political and social landscape. The newly elected executive include Ms. Peninah Martin, Mr. Young Virivolomo, Ms.Melanie Turangaluvu and Ms.Josephine Maka’a and Ms. Lenore Koga.

The Young Women’s Parliamentary Group is formed under the auspices of the Speaker of Parliament. It is a voluntary group whose members are young women from different organizations and backgrounds. The purpose of YWPG is to influence government policies and legislation through Parliamentary tools and working with Members of Parliament. Through advocacy, training, and collaboration, the YWPG empowers young women to engage in the political process, raise their voices, and contribute to meaningful change in society.
