SUNDAY Isles proudly acknowledges the Media Solomon Islands for honoring Isles Media’s contributions to the Solomon Women Platform with a special recognition award.

The award, a Certificate of Recognition for Raising the Voices of Women through the Women’s Media Platform, was presented to the Isles team during the Media Solomon Islands (MASI) Media Awards 2024 celebration at the Heritage Park Hotel on Saturday.

Lyndah Wate Seni, Isles Media Publisher, expressed that this recognition allows the Isles team to reflect on their mission, identify areas for improvement, and appreciate their journey as a locally owned media organization. She congratulated the Isles team for their dedication and hard work behind the scenes.

“Isles Media Team wishes to dedicate this award to Solomon Women, Our Women from the shores of shorthand’s to Tikopia, not forgetting the journalists, freelancers, media partners, our readers and followers, and more, especially our advertisers who supported us from time to time and added value to the growth of Solomon Women Vision since 2015 until today,” she said.

She noted that every day, Solomon Women strives to highlight and advocate for the voices of our Indigenous women and girls through media and are closely guided by our mission and vision.

Sunday Isles began as a weekly newspaper in 2010, later establishing the Solomon Women Newspaper in 2015, the first and only women-focused paper in the Solomon Islands. In 2020, the publication shifted online due to business and printing challenges posed by COVID-19. Over the past decade, they have registered around 5000 exclusive stories, news, and updates about women.

“We started Solomon Women Newspaper back then with a vision to celebrate our Indigenous women and girls’ diversity, strength, and spirit and therefore continue to publish exclusive stories of our local women and girls to reflect the many roles and interests that our women play in our society.

“Every step of our journey comes with its challenges and obstacles. For now, I believe our way forward is to simply embrace the challenges and stay committed to a way of working together that recognizes our place in the country as a media organization.

“I hope that one day soon our readers and followers will access all these stories online as together we celebrate the past, present, and future contributions of Solomon Women, our Indigenous women, and girls at all levels through media.

“Thank you once again to Media Solomon Islands; finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to salute other media organizations and individuals who contributed equally well to the growth of our work and calling to inform, communicate, educate, and raise awareness on areas that matter most for our people, our nation, Solomon Islands,” Lyndah expressed.
