The VATUD Constituency, led by MP Freda Rangirei, has boosted its community emergency response and sea transportation capabilities with the procurement of nine Outboard Motor (OBM) engines.

Funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of SBD$221,245.00, the project includes a 75 HP engine for emergency transport to Tikopia Island, four 40 HP engines for Vanikoro and Utupua Islands, and four 15 HP engines for small fishing projects in Vanikoro and Utupua.
Hon. Freda received the OBMs on behalf of the beneficiary communities on February 18, 2026, from Y.Sato Marine.

These engines are now ready for shipment, enhancing timely health referrals to Lata, supporting fisheries, and improving transportation among the islands.
Hon. Rangirei acknowledged the Solomon Islands Government for its CDF program, which supports community livelihoods.
The project aligns with the CDF Act 2023 and the constituency’s development plan. With sea transportation being a major challenge, the constituency is committed to delivering all CDF and Rural Sustainable Development Program projects. Constituency Development Officer Justin Tanema also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support through the Ministry of Rural Development.
