Nester Zina Leguvakaa, known by her artist name Miyah, is a 27-year-old singer and songwriter whose music is more than a passion—it’s her way of telling stories, healing wounds, and connecting with music lovers in the Solomon Islands.

For Miyah, every lyric and song is a piece of her journey — and she’s just getting started.

“I come from Isabel, and I grew up surrounded by uncles who had bands,” Miyah said with a smile. “I would watch them perform at festivals and make recordings. That inspired me to think, why not try it myself? And that’s how my journey as an artist began.”

Miyah, a 27-year-old singer and songwriter, uses music as a passion to tell stories, heal wounds, and connect with music lovers.

Raised in a family full of music and rhythm, Miyah found her calling early. Her sound blends R&B, island reggae, and island Afro beats — a unique mix that reflects both her heritage and her creativity. But like many women in music, her path hasn’t been easy.

“One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is self-doubt,” she shared with SOLOMON WOMEN. “I’ve had to deal with negative comments and expectations—that as women, we’re supposed to do all the house chores, and that music is just a distraction. But over time, I’ve learnt how to manage my time and handle negativity.”

Miyah’s songs speak about love, pain, strength, and hope — emotions she knows deeply.

Miyah, a 27-year-old singer and songwriter from Isabel, combines R&B, island reggae, and Afro beats. Despite self-doubt, she manages time and manages negativity.

“Music has helped me a lot,” she said. “It healed me through difficult times and gave me peace. It’s like my comfort and my concealer — it helps me hide the pain and show my strength.”

For Miyah, the connection with her listeners is what makes it all worthwhile.

“Knowing that people cry, dance, or sing along to my music shows me how deeply they connect. Their love and support have helped shape me into who I am today.”

Miyah, an Honiara-based independent artist, uses RNB, island reggae, and island Afro rhythms to tell stories of life, love, strength, and hope, despite facing criticism and cultural expectations.

Now, her dream is to take her music beyond the shores of Isabel.

“I want to travel to different places, collaborate with artists from around the country and region, and inspire people through my story,” she said.

To young women chasing their dreams, Miyah has a message straight from the heart:

“Don’t give up, even if it’s hard. Keep believing in yourself and your talent. Keep learning, and keep growing. I hope my songs give people hope, make them feel strong, and remind them that they are never alone.”
