THE XVII Pacific Games 2023 silver medal victory by the Solomon Islands Women’s Hockey 5s Team has written a new chapter in the history of women’s hockey in the country.
The 18-year-old Miriam Bobby, a player for the Women’s Hockey 5s, expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance and accomplishments and vowed to continue pushing forward to bigger games in the future.
“I am extremely proud of the team for our accomplishments thus far, including our silver medal. We put a lot of effort into earning this medal.
“I gave thanks to God for the teams, the coaches’, and the supporters’ strength.
“I want to start by giving thanks to God for giving us the strength to make it to the finals. I would also like to thank my coaches, our supporters in the Solomon Islands, and my teammates for the incredibly hard work we have put in during our games to get us this far,” Miriam told SOLOMON WOMEN.
Miriam said the team enjoyed the Pacific Games and is excited for more competitions in the future.
“As hockey players, this was a positive experience for the team. Reaching the gold medal finals of the Pacific Games hockey competition strengthened us, even though we lost our game against Fiji. We are excited for more significant games in the future.”
Mirriam, a sixth-form student at St. Nicholas College, started playing hockey in 2018.
