When Georgina Oroi received the email announcing her selection as a Chevening Scholar for 2025–2026, she could hardly believe her eyes. “This achievement is one I’d like to dedicate to HOPE Trust – the place where I first discovered my passion for combating human trafficking,” she said, reflecting on the journey that brought her here.

Georgina is the second recipient of this year’s prestigious UK Government Chevening Scholarship. She will pursue a master’s degree at the University of Sussex, focusing on human trafficking and trafficking in persons. The scholarship aims to support emerging leaders from around the world who are committed to driving positive change.

Her voice is clear and purposeful, but deeply personal. “My experience under the vision and mission of HOPE Trust ignited a fire in me that continues to guide my purpose,” she shared.

But for Georgina, this award is about more than just academic achievement. It’s about sending a message of hope to others, especially young people facing self-doubt.

“I would also like to dedicate this award to all the young people who are battling with self-confidence, self-doubt, and fear of reaching out for opportunities. Hard work, confidence, and strong faith in oneself can yield so much. All it takes is a little bit of courage.”

Her advice? Start small. “Take courage to believe in your dream, if not one day at a time, then an hour, a minute or even a second at a time,” she said. “Wherever you are in your life—personal or professional—you deserve a seat at the table.”

Georgina’s passion for advocacy, justice, and change has been inspired not only by her professional experiences but by a strong support network. She took a moment to thank those closest to her.

“To my partner Paul, thank you for the safe and happy home you’ve created in which I get to live, thrive, and be pretty. To my family, especially mom and dad, thank you for your unwavering support and prayers. And to my friends Tanz, Karlo, Edz, and Sepa – your blind faith in me reassured me that I have a strong circle to rely on.”

Georgina said: “Above all, I thank God for His love, mercy, and grace. Without Him, I am nothing.”

As she looks ahead to studying in the UK, Georgina remains both excited and humble. “I’m a little nervous, but I know I’m exactly where I need to be.”

Applications for the 2026–2027 Chevening Scholarships open tomorrow and close on 7 October 2025. Future changemakers can apply at chevening.org/apply.
