TWO young females, Natalie and Betsy Wale have confirmed their full confidence and commitment to disseminate Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) information back to their respective communities.
Both young women have recently participated and completed a three-days training workshop based on Sexual Reproductive Health, which was facilitated by the Solomon Islands Parenthood Association (SIPPA) and organised by the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA).
The female duo told Solomon Women that they really appreciated the facilitated training workshop because it has definitely changed their lives in a more positive direction.
Ms Wale from Guadalcanal province said she is currently a student undergoing studies at the Solomon Island National University (SINU), but still has the heart to learn more about sexual reproductive health in order to disseminate the right information to her community in Aola, North East Guadalcanal.
“I have learned many new things and it has taught me to change from the type of person I used to be in my village and into a new person who is ready to carry out the task and to be the model to young youth in my community,” said Ms Betsy.
Ms Natalie from the Tuvaruhu Community in Honiara said she is really confident that the knowledge obtained throughout the workshop will be shared among the youths in her community.
“I am happy and proud to have completed the training and to receive this certificate. The certificate and the knowledge I gained will give me the confidence to share it out to others in my community of Tuvaruvu so that they too will have the idea of the issues that is happening around us today,” Natalie said.
She added that there were many important topics on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), teenage pregnancy and other areas that we have covered in the three-days training workshop.
“One of the important topics we covered during the training was to know your ‘Value’. It’s important for others to know their value especially young youths. By knowing your values and learning to respect yourselves would avoid social issues such as teenage pregnancy, violence, stealing and many other issues that we face in our communities today.”
Both young women are looking forward to carry out the task to provide awareness to the young youths in their respective communities in Honiara and Guadalcanal.
Meanwhile, Natalie and Betsy have encouraged young people in the respective communities throughout the country to visit the SIPPA Centre in New China Town, Honiara if they want to seek counselling, advices and more information on sexual health related issues.
The Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association is dedicated to supporting access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, education and services.
Adopting an integrated approach that encompasses service delivery, advocating to political and religious leaders and targeted educational campaigns, SIPPA has managed to achieve tangible results.
