The reign of Miss Solomon Islands 2024–2025, Elsie Camelyn Salumata Polosovai, officially came to a close on August 24th, marking the end of a year she described as “one of the most challenging, rewarding, and humbling journeys” of her life.
In her official farewell statement, Elsie reflected on her time wearing the crown — a role she called a “profound honour” and one that allowed her to represent the people of the Solomon Islands with pride.
“Carrying the crown has been a profound honour — to represent our beautiful people, amplify our stories, and grow through every opportunity and challenge that came my way,” she shared.
While based in New Zealand throughout her reign, Elsie openly acknowledged the difficulties of balancing her title responsibilities with personal and professional commitments abroad.
“I found myself not able to be present in the Solomon Islands as often as I had hoped. I take full responsibility for that… This experience taught me valuable lessons about responsibility and the importance of being present in my community and with my people,” she said.
Her decision not to extend her term was, she explained, made with careful consideration, and in what she believes is the best interest of the platform and its future.
Elsie expressed deep appreciation to the Miss Solomon Islands Pageant Committee, pageant host Joyce Konofilia, and everyone who supported her behind the scenes.
“To every sister queen, supporter, and the young girl who cheered me on — you are the heartbeat of this platform. Your encouragement has been my guiding light.”
A special mention went to the Lauru People’s Association, whose cultural support and community spirit stood with her from the beginning of her tenure.
“The weight of the crown felt lighter knowing you stood beside me,” she said, adding that their belief in cultural identity carried her through.
She also extended gratitude to the Solomon Islands Government, recognising its efforts to empower women and youth.
“Although there are challenges and areas for growth, I am thankful for the efforts made toward believing in the potential of our youth.”
Elsie thanked the wide network of supporters behind her — from designers and chaperones to media teams and her family — describing their support as the driving force behind her journey.
As she stepped down, her message to the next titleholder was one of encouragement and hope.
“As I lay down the crown, I do so with a heart full of gratitude and hope… that the next Miss Solomon Islands will carry the flame of our pride even higher.”
Though her reign has ended, Elsie made it clear that her passion for serving her people and uplifting Solomon Islands women remains unchanged.
“Although my time with this title may be ending, my service to our people and my belief in the power of Solomon Islands women will remain unwavering.”
Meanwhile, she said farewell: “Tagio tumas lo ufala evriwan.”
