Betty Nanau, a junior accounts manager at Morrison & Somsky Chartered Accountants, delivered a speech after receiving her Emerging Accountant Award.

With over five years of experience at the firm, Betty works on preparing financial statements, tax returns, and supporting clients with internal controls. She is also known for mentoring others in the field.

“I’m proud of my capacity to help other accounting and finance personnel for various clients,” she said. “The trust and confidence I’ve received—just being considered—is something I deeply appreciate.”

The ISIA 2025 Accounting Awards marked a significant moment for the profession in the Solomon Islands. The awards were launched to recognize individuals who have made impactful contributions to the accounting and financial sector.

The Emerging Accountant Award celebrates rising stars in the field—young professionals who are showing promise and leadership early in their careers.

Betty hopes her achievement inspires other young women in accounting to aim high.

“I hope this award helps other young women in accounting. I want to encourage them to continue to strive and pursue excellence,” she said.

She also shared a message for those considering a career in accounting.

“Go for it,” she said. “You have a good space to make a contribution and make a change to this country.”

She acknowledged that the journey is not always easy.

“There is always a challenge in continuously developing yourself. But as long as you do your best—even if you fail—you get back up, learn from your mistakes, and become better.”
