At just 23 years old, Alumeci Kwaomae has turned her passion for baking into a blossoming business, all while balancing her studies at the Solomon Islands National University. Inspired by the many cooks and bakers in her family, she launched and registered Simple Bakes in 2021, a home-based bakery known for its three specialty flavors: chocolate, red velvet, and carrot cake.
“My family is full of cooks and bakers, I guess that’s where my talent and motivation come from,” Alumeci shared with SOLOMON WOMEN. “Baking has always been fun for me, and I enjoy doing it.”

Despite being a full-time student, Alumeci has faced her own set of challenges as a young entrepreneur.
“Time management is one thing I struggle with the most,” she said. “Sometimes I have to turn down orders because I have assignments and exams, which causes me to work inconsistently.”
However, Alumeci has found ways to overcome these obstacles. “I’ve just created a Facebook page to better manage my orders,” she explained. “Now I’m going to manage my time wisely and make it clear to my customers when to order and during which business hours.”

For Alumeci, baking is more than just a hobby or a job—it’s a way to cope with stress and avoid procrastination.
“It may sound silly, but the stress in baking helps me beat procrastination,” she said, laughing.
One of the standout moments in her journey was when she baked a cake for the Telekom engineering team.
“That was a highlight for me because that’s when I started getting more customers,” she recalled.

Operating from her home, conveniently located opposite the SIBC, Alumeci has created a welcoming space where people can indulge in her delicious creations. Her dedication to her craft and her perseverance in balancing school and business have shown her that with passion and planning, dreams can truly rise like her freshly baked cakes.
