The first White River Diverse Festival has created an opportunity for women and youth from the Ngossi Ward Women’s Association to showcase and sell their locally made products, according to the association’s Vice President, Rose Amasia.
Held at the White River Community Playing Field over the weekend, the festival brought together surrounding communities to celebrate their diverse cultures, talents and traditions under the theme, “Experiencing Solomon Islands in One Community.”

Speaking to SOLOMON WOMEN, Ms Amasia, who is also the Vice Chair of the Ngossi Ward Youth Committee, said the festival provided a platform for women in the community to come out and display products and items they had made themselves.
She said women had previously lacked an avenue to showcase and sell their products, making the festival an important opportunity for members of the association to display their talents and creativity.
“The festival created an opportunity and a space for the women in the community to come out and display their items and products which have been created by themselves,” Rose said.

Ms Amasia said the establishment of the Ngossi Ward Women’s Association had encouraged women to come together and participate in activities that would help them showcase their skills and products.
She acknowledged that the festival had helped women gain exposure and provided them with an opportunity to present their locally made products to the wider community.
Ms Amasia said the association looked forward to continuing to work together in the future, strengthening their unity and collective efforts to bring positive changes to their community.

“We are looking forward to work together in the future and streghthen ourselves in doing things together to also see changes in our community,” she said.
Ms Amasia who is also the Vice Chair of Ngossi ward youth committee also said youths in the community had a great time showcasing their talents in their booths.

The festival has also aimed to promote White River’s cultural diversity, talents and traditions while showcasing the community’s potential to develop into a tourism product from 2027 and beyond.
