Members of Women in ICT Solomon Islands joined ICT professionals and system administrators from organisations across Honiara in a four-day information security training programme aimed at strengthening the country’s cybersecurity capacity.
According to the Women in ICT Solomon Islands, the Information Security for System Administrators training, was delivered by APNIC and hosted by the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA), was held from 21 to 24 July 2026.
The programme was facilitated by APNIC trainers Imtiaz Sajid and Shaqayeq Saleh, who provided participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in key areas of information security.
Training sessions covered security policies, penetration testing, Domain Name System (DNS) security, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) mitigation, and threat detection. Participants also took part in interactive laboratory exercises, group discussions, and a Kahoot challenge designed to reinforce cybersecurity concepts in an engaging learning environment.
Women in ICT Solomon Islands congratulated all participants for successfully completing the course and receiving their certificates of participation.
The organisation said every new skill acquired contributes to building a stronger, safer, and more resilient digital future for the Solomon Islands.
WITSI also expressed its appreciation to APNIC for delivering the specialised training and to the Ministry of Communication and Aviation for coordinating and hosting the programme.
The organisation further acknowledged trainers Imtiaz Sajid and Shaqayeq Saleh for sharing their expertise and creating an engaging and impactful learning experience for participants.
WITSI said the training reflects a shared commitment to empowering women in the ICT sector, strengthening national cybersecurity capacity, and inspiring the next generation of digital leaders in the Solomon Islands.
