A recently organized 3-days policy consultation-training workshop aimed at local women residing in Honiara has successfully ended.
The ‘Honiara Women Policy Consultation’ training was facilitated by the Honiara City Council Women’s Desk at the Honiara City Council (HCC), Education Division conference room in Honiara.
The objective of the workshop was to purposely convene women in Honiara to contribute to the formulation process of a new policy to help address specific underlined issues, which have affected women and girls within the respective communities in Honiara.
The training facilitator, Janet Tuhaika told Solomon Women that the policy consultation aims to allow respective women in various communities in Honiara to participate and provide input into the policy formulation process.
“It’s an initiative to enable communities to take a sense of ownership of the policy and basically to create a good relationship with communities in Honiara and HCC.
The policy consultation workshop has attracted respective women groups, church ministry leaders, Solomon Islands National University (SINU) students, and housewives from the 3 Constituencies of East, Central, and West Honiara.
Mrs. Tuhaika said our main objective is to formulate a policy to help address specific issues affecting women and girls in the respective communities in Honiara.
“It was excellent to meet women leaders representing various communities and groups in Honiara. Similar consultation workshop training has also been carried out in other provinces within the country.
“The consultation aims to expand participants’ knowledge and understanding of the inputs and outcomes of the proposed policy. This is to ensure they have a fair idea of the policy especially once it is implemented in the local communities in the country.
“I strongly believe that the respective participants of the policy consultation workshop will return to their communities, churches, and ministries with great insights to make changes in their respective communities,” she said.
