From the heart of Langalanga Lagoon in the Solomon Islands, Mary Inasimae’s journey to becoming Principal of Panatina Community High School is an inspiring journey to her dedication and courage.

Her path, rooted in a childhood inspired by missionary educators at St. Joseph Tenaru, led her to a career in education. Now in her eighth year as Principal, Mary reflects on her experience.

Initially, Mary encountered challenges in a leadership role often dominated by men, particularly within a cultural context where male leadership is the norm. However, through open communication and a collaborative approach, she overcame these hurdles, fostering a supportive environment where her decisions were accepted and respected.
Mary finds immense satisfaction in witnessing her students’ achievements, many of whom come from humble backgrounds.
She emphasizes the importance of providing resources and ensuring quality education. Her leadership style is characterized by open dialogue, delegation, and a hands-on approach, always interacting with her staff and students.

Mary believes in honest results, encouraging schools to uphold integrity in examinations.
Looking ahead, Mary is passionate about improving English language skills and reviving library sessions to enhance students’ learning experiences.
For aspiring female leaders, Mary’s message is clear: embrace the challenge, work hard, build strong relationships, and seize every opportunity.
Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact women can have in leadership, shaping the future of education in the Solomon Islands.
