THE inaugural OFC Women’s Champions League, kicks off in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on June 1. In the buildup to the tournament, we are looking at the five teams competing to be crowned champions. Now, the focus is on Koloale FC of Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands’ representative at OFC Women’s Champions League, Koloale FC, are based in Honiara – the capital and largest city – and they boast a rich history of domestic success.

Founded in 2006, they have already amassed a number of honours, including the 2006/07 National League and most recently the 2022 Solrais Women’s Premier League. The latest success saw them qualify for this years’ inaugural Champions League.

The Coach’s hopes for the tournament – Crystal Bakolo

“I am looking forward to the first game. I know it won’t be easy and it will be a tough battle but we are looking forward to the challenge. The preparation is going well with the Women’s Premier League underway it has helped us work on our weaknesses.”

“It is a history, a history in women’s football to lift the game to another level. And to us it is very special in the sense that you can only play against other countries only when you are in the National team. So having this first ever OFC women’s Champions league is a huge step that motivates young women and girls. And as a result it will increase participation in women’s football.”

Player to Watch

Ilen Moffat Pegi will be a key goal threat for Koloale FC. A tricky operator for opposition defenders to deal with, Pegi is a great finisher and has a tendency to make an impact in the big moments when her team needs her the most.
